BitBox02 Review

The BitBox02 is a hardware wallet from the Swiss company BitBox (formerly Shift Crypto). This wallet is available in two versions: a Bitcoin-only edition and a Multi-coin edition. With the Multi-coin version, you can manage not only Bitcoin but also Ethereum, Litecoin, Cardano, and ERC20 tokens.

Advantages of the BitBox02

• Leader in Bitcoin implementations: BitBox often leads in adopting new Bitcoin functionalities. Currently, it’s the first hardware wallet to support Silent Payments.
• Fully open-source: The BitBox02 is 100% open-source, meaning the source code is publicly accessible.
• SD card backup: During setup, a private key is created and directly stored on the included SD card. This SD card contains a backup of the private key, allowing you to easily recover access with another BitBox02. Of course, you can also write down and keep the Recovery Seed Phrase as an additional backup.
• Secure packaging: The BitBox02 comes in a sealed, thick plastic package, so you can be sure the box has not been previously opened.
• Dutch support in the BitBoxApp: The BitBoxApp is available in Dutch, though some smaller sections are not yet fully translated.

Disadvantages of the BitBox02

• No support for iOS (Apple) phones: The BitBox02 is not compatible with iOS devices.
• No sell options within the BitBoxApp: Currently, the BitBoxApp does not offer the ability to sell crypto directly from the app.
