Tangem Wallet Review
The Tangem Wallet stands out from other hardware wallets due to its innovative backup system. Instead of a traditional recovery seed phrase, Tangem uses multiple physical cards to secure your private keys. This means that even if you lose one card, you still retain access to your crypto.
We've discovered both advantages and disadvantages in Tangem's unique backup approach. On this page, we discuss our findings from testing and reviewing the Tangem Wallet.

Advantages of the Tangem Wallet
- No hassle with recording a recovery phrase: Thanks to Tangem’s unique approach, you can back up your private key on the included cards without having to write down a recovery seed. Each card provides access to your crypto wallets, making setup only take about 5 minutes. In comparison, other hardware wallets require you to write down and verify a 12-, 20-, or 24-word recovery seed, which typically takes around 30 minutes. With Tangem, an extra card acts as a backup, and we recommend the 3-card version for maximum security.
- Wide range of supported altcoins: The Tangem Wallet supports a variety of cryptocurrencies and tokens and is often quick to add new popular coins. Examples of coins and tokens that are not supported by many hardware wallets but are by Tangem include Kaspa, Cardano (including tokens), Base, Arbitrum, Cronos, Kava, VeChain, and zkSync.
Disadvantages of the Tangem Wallet
- Backup only through cards: For some users, this is a drawback. Although easy to use, the backup system also has its risks. When users store all cards in the same place, this can be vulnerable in the case of fire or theft.
- No computer support: The Tangem Wallet works exclusively with iOS and Android phones. It cannot be used with a computer.
Helpful Tips
- Optional recovery seed phrase feature: During setup, the Tangem Wallet may offer the option to generate a recovery seed. We recommend not using this option, as the seed is displayed on your phone screen, which is less secure due to the internet connection. For the same reason, we also advise against importing a recovery seed.
Who is the Tangem Wallet suitable for?
The Tangem Wallet is ideal for crypto users who:
- Are looking for an easy-to-use hardware wallet
- Prefer not to deal with recovery seeds
- Have an iOS or Android phone
Important to consider: Be sure to store your backup cards in different secure locations. If all cards are kept in one place and that location is compromised or lost, you risk losing access to your crypto.
